The Shipyard by nuu The Shipyard by nuu
This is the painting I did for my school's fund raising project. (Calendars, greeting cards, post cards, etc)
The jury must've really hated it, because it wasn't chosen to be used for any aspect of the fund raising project.

Note: This painting is for sale, so note me if you're interested. Serious enquiries only.

24" x 30"

The way you use blues seems very expressive although of course the contrast with the bronze is fabulous as well, and your painting style is lusciously emotive.
/gush.

Wow, I think it's a beautiful picture. :wow:
I love that blue colour, and the skyscraper looks awesome.
The jury was obviously crazy not to choose this.

Hi,

I'm a lurker here, but just had to come out of my shell and say that that's a lovely painting. I adore the angle. The smoke-mist adds this industrial atmosphere contrasted so well by the only specks of brightly coloured nature things. With the construction like a border.

I love it, especially the little birds and the lighting on the wood there.

All that cloudiness around the tower makes me think of 9/11 and the buildings collapsing... was this intentional? Nobody else mentioned it and I don't know the theme of your fund-raiser, but that's what I thought of.

I feel dumb for being unsure of your intention, but looking at it this way gives an interesting level to the painting to me. Kind of eerie... showing tranquility in the humble wooden structure with unsuspecting birds, while such a tragedy that we normally focus on is occurring.

I like the way the building blended with the background. It makes it look like it's really far away and the city is in a little bit of a smog/fog. That or it almost makes it look like a city in the sky which is equally cool. I like it a lot.

I love the framming effects the bridge has on the cool buildings. Makes the foreground pop wonderfully.

What idiots! This is beautiful! I love the contrast of color and the lighting of this. I would have bought an entire calendar, probably, for a peice such as this!

Well, it's a shame they wouldn't use it..

It's absolutely beautiful. Making the buildings in the background blend in does seem a little weird, but that's what I like about it.

Great job! :]

I wouldn't say they hated it. It is a really great painting and I love the angel on it. It may just not have had the feel they wanted or... who knows.

Juries are odd creatures made up of different minds and you can never know really what they like or dislike.

Very good, Nuu! It does feel slightly unbalanced, though. Perhaps if you mixed some darker tones with the buildings in the back? Just bit should do the trick...something to bring them out just a BIT more, y'know?

I did adjust the contrast a bit before I uploaded it, the contrast isn't as intense on the painting itself. I guess though, what I was trying to do was separate the two planes of foreground and background.

hmmm i dont know why they didnt chose it but this work is ... well overqualified for post cards i guess... i would honestly have it in a giant wall or something.. it would work out better that way i think. i guess i can see it as a calendar, but it kind of looses itself i think. cause its such a peacfull and idustrial atmosphere..

aside that i love the colours scheme <3<3<3

Hmm... perhaps it didn't suit the theme they were looking for?
The focus of the painting I'm seeing here is the tall building and in some ways it emphasizes heavy industry looming over nature. I get this because of the color choice/play where higher civilization is in blue whereas the more traditional is in earthy colors. Furthermore, the two lone birds and grasses add to this idea.

Haha, thats just my perspective on the painting and it's not all that important so don't let it affect you :D

Overall though, the painting itself is lovely and shows a good deal of craftsmanship.
Do keep up the good work :D
